Hyoyeon - Dessert |
This week we got a few K-Pop releases, such as Somi's What You Waiting For and Hyoyeon's Dessert. Today, I'm going to be reviewing Dessert by Hyoyeon, so, let's get into the review.

Okay, now without further ado, let's get into the review.
THE SONG
So first of all, what did I think of the song? Well, I really like it. The song starts off with Soyeon singing, that's interesting because featured artists don't usually start off the song, but Soyeon did. And what makes it even better is that Soyeon was singing instead of rapping. Now, I'm not a hardcore (G)-IDLE fan, so I don't know if she has ever shown off her vocals in a song before, but it's nice to see a change.
After Soyeon sings her verse, it progresses into Hyoyeon's pre-chorus, which is one of my favourite parts of this song, to be honest.
Afterwards is the chorus which I also like, and it then goes to Loopy's rap. I quite like how generous Hyoyeon was with this song because she gave Loopy a long time to rap, and also gave Soyeon time to show off her vocals.
Another one of my favourite parts is Hyoyeon's rap. For me, that part was really catchy. I also really like Hyoyeon's voice and her flow when rapping. Since I discovered K-Pop in the 3rd generation, I didn't really hear about SNSD and I mainly got into Hyoyeon when she was with the group Good Girl. And even in Good Girl she only sang, so I think it's nice that she rapped this time.
Now for one thing that caught me off guard. So, at first, I thought the arrangement of this song was a bit weird, and I couldn't really get used to the song. But after a while, the arrangement of the song grew on me and it doesn't sound as weird as it did before.
So, overall, I really like this song. This was my first song with Hyoyeon, and I definitely wasn't disappointed.
THE CHOREOGRAPHY / PERFORMANCE
Okay, so now for the choreography and performance. However, before we get into it, since there's no fancam for this song yet, I based my review on this performance.
So, what did I think of the choreography? Well, based on what I was able to see, I quite like this choreography. I really do think it suits Hyoyeon.
So, despite not being a 2nd Generation K-Pop stan, I do know that Hyoyeon is known for her dancing, and I can't argue with that. I really like the way Hyoyeon dances, and I enjoy watching her perform.
My favourite part of this choreography would have to be the chorus. That part is the most memorable in my opinion, and it was also shown in the music video as well.
Now for the performance. So, what did I think of it? Well, I definitely wasn't disappointed. I felt like Hyoyeon was giving her all during the performance and I didn't get bored watching her dancing.
However, I'm still hoping to see a performance with Soyeon and Loopy together, but until then, I was very happy with this performance.
So overall, despite not having a fancam to base my thoughts off of, I still believe that this is a good choreography that Hyoyeon pulled off well.
THE MUSIC VIDEO
So, now for the music video. But first, if you haven't watched the music video then make sure to watch it above.
So, what did I think of the music video? Well, the music video is very focused on the choreography and visuals, which I'm fine with. I also like that everyone that was included in the song got time to shine in the music video.
So, with that being said, here are my favourite parts of the music video:
Number One — Hyoyeon's Outfits
Hyoyeon - Dessert Red Outfit |
So yeah, I know I talk about outfits every review now, but I had to talk about these ones. I love all of the outfits in the music video but the one above has to be my favourite.
I love the off the shoulder top and the skirt together, and I think Hyoyeon pulls of this outfit really well. This outfit also gives me a 'biker' sort of vibe, but maybe that's just me.
Number Two — The Close Up Shots
Hyoyeon Dessert - Soyeon Close-Up |
Another one of my favourite parts of this music video was the close-up shots that we got for Hyoyeon and Soyeon.
This might be annoying, but I will probably not be able to review a music video, without talking about the visuals, and this review is no exception.
So yeah, I really like that we got close-up shots of everyone because we were able to appreciate their visuals, and, it gave them time to shine in the music video.
Number Three - The Sets
Hyoyeon Dessert - Favourite Set |
I love this one in particular because everything just goes together, from Hyoyeon's outfit to the plants, to even the food that's on the table.
Tell me in the comments what your favourite part of the music video was.
So, overall, I really like this music video, the visuals were great, the sets were great, and I love that everyone got a chance to shine.
OVERALL RATING
So, what is my overall rating for this song? Well, in my opinion, this was a good song, and I quite liked the music video and the choreography as well. So, keeping this in mind, I'll give this song an 8/10. Tell me what you guys think in the comments.
So, that brings me to the end of my review, I hope you enjoyed it.
And with that being said,
Stay safe,
Ciao xx
