Recently, BTS has broken multiple records with their new all English song, Dynamite. But what did I think of this song? Let's find out.
But first of all, if you enjoy my content, make sure to subscribe to my blog by email. Also, if you want the video version of any of my posts then make sure to subscribe to my channel YeonJunie on YouTube.
Okay, now let's get into the review.
(Note: So, you may know this, but recently on Angelina's Video (Why Dynamite is Familiar), I commented about the autotune in this song, and although it wasn't too bad, one or two people got mad and decided to come at me for it. Now, my whole blog is about giving my opinions on songs, and if you can't handle me giving me (potentially positive or negative) thoughts on this song, then please leave 😊. My blog is fairly small, and I don't need sensitive people attacking me here. However, if you are mature enough to respect my opinion, then carry on reading 😃 )
THE SONG
So, first things first, the song. So, what did I think of the song? Well, I do quite like it.
This song is quite a groovy, retro-y kind of song. I really like this change in concept, because it is really different from the song 'On', that they released earlier this year.
This song is really catchy and it makes you want to get up and dance. It sounds like something that you could hear in a disco.
Something that I will admit is that I kinda procrastinated listening to this song. Despite the song having millions upon millions of views on YouTube, I couldn't bring myself to watch more than about 15 seconds of the song.
I don't know why exactly I put off this song for so long, but I think one reason for that is the first few lyrics of the first verse.
The first few lyrics of verse 1 are: 'Shoes on, get up in the morn, Cup of milk, let's rock and roll,' To me, it was the cup of milk line that put me off. But, I decided to push through the song anyway.
Besides, I'm pretty sure that literally only one member of BTS speaks English fluently, but they all sang a full English song. So, knowing all of this, I don't expect the lyrics to be like something that Shakespeare wrote.
But, before we move on to some other parts of this song, let's talk about one other line that I find weird.
That line is Namjoon's 'Ladies and gentlemen, I got the medicine so you should keep ya eyes on the ball.' If someone could explain to me what this means I would really appreciate it 🙂
So, now for one part of the song that I didn't love. The line distribution. Now, I know y'all probably don't want to hear another person talk about this. But, I'm gonna do it anyway. So, if you don't want to hear my complaints, feel free to skip ahead.
So, the line distribution. I know, the fans make a WAY bigger deal about this than the actual members of BTS but I feel like I should mention it.
Here is the line distribution.

As you can see, it's not great.
Some argue that because this song is vocal, the rap line couldn't get many lines, and I understand where they are coming from.
However, line distributions aren't too much of a big deal and I don't want to get into it too much. So, let's move on.
So, now let's talk about another part of this song, the autotune. Is anyone surprised? At all?
I talked about this very briefly in the comments of one of Angelina's recent videos (Y'all should subscribe by the way) and I got very mixed responses. But I'm still gonna talk about it anyway.
So yeah, the autotune, to me, there was quite a lot of it. Especially at the end of the song with the high note. Usually, autotune doesn't bother me, but I feel like the autotune in this song was quite noticeable, especially at first listen. However, it definitely isn't so much that you can't distinguish BTS' voices, because even as a casual BTS fan, I can distinguish their voices fine.
But still, I don't know where BigHit is going with all this autotune, but oh well. I still enjoyed the song, and although BTS doesn't need all the autotune, it doesn't make me enjoy the song any less.
So, now instead of complaining, let's talk about parts that I actually like about this song.
Number One — The Theme of the song
As said before, the song is very groovy and retro-y, and it makes you want to get up and dance. I really like that it's just a fun song to listen to.
Number Two — The Key Change
The key change is just a great addition to the song. I feel like the key change would sound even better if you were listening to it live in a concert or something. But unfortunately, broke International ARMY can't relate 😢
But anyways...
Number Three — The fact that it's in English
So, another thing that I like about this song is that it's in English.
We all have to admit that it's hard to sing a song in another language. I mean, try singing in Korean. So, I really applaud BTS for singing in English.
So, overall, I do quite like this song. And although it may seem like I'm just complaining, I do actually like the song.
THE CHOREOGRAPHY
So, now for the choreography.
I'm not really going to review the choreography, because on my blog I review the full choreography, however, there's no full choreography to review.
I usually wait until a performance / fancam has come out, but as of now, there is none out yet, so, if you want to see my review of the choreography, wait till my end of month review, and hopefully, by then, I will be able to see the full choreography.
THE MUSIC VIDEO
Okay, so now for the music video. But first of all, if you haven't watched the music video, make sure to watch it above.
So, what did I think of this music video? Well, I really like it.
This music video doesn't look as 'fancy' and 'extravagant' as other music videos but I still really like it. The music video looks quite simple and that's one of the things I like about this music video.
Another thing I like about this music video is that it's really aesthetically pleasing. The colours are pastel and they all go together really well, so that's another bonus.
Another thing in the music video is the disco background. As I said before, the song has a disco theme to it, and I love that they added that into the music video. Somewhere near the end, the music video has a disco-y background where all the members are seen dancing, and it looks so fun.
Something else that I like about this music video is how 'personal' it feels. The music video doesn't really look like it was too 'strict' if that makes sense. The music video seems really fun and it seems like BTS were just told to enjoy themselves, and that's exactly what they did.
I also liked that we got close-ups of the members when it was their turn to sing. (No matter how short their parts were, cough cough). Speaking of close-ups, now for something that I would like to slightly comment on.
This isn't exactly a complaint because I really love the music video, but, while watching this, I couldn't help but ask, where's Jin? I guess my question was answered, he did get shown eventually, but he didn't get a shot on his own like the other members. So, although it's not like he wasn't shown at all, I couldn't help but be a little bit disappointed.
However, nonetheless, I love this music video, and it might be one of my favourite music videos out of the one's I have reviewed.
(If the original MV isn't enough for you, make sure to watch the B-Side Music Video, here)
WHO OWNED THIS SONG?
Okay, now for who owned this song.
So, this was very difficult for me, but I think I finally came to a decision. And, the person who I think owned this song is...
Jungkook
So, I chose Jungkook because he got a lot of lines, screentime, and I think that he stood out this comeback. And also, he does have pretty good English pronunciation.

However, if you disagree with who I think owned this song, make sure to vote down below for who you think owned this song.
MY OVERALL RATING
Finally, what is my overall rating for this song?
Well, I do really like this song, but I do have parts of this song that I don't love. So, keeping this in mind, I'll give this song a 7/10. Tell me what you all think in the comments.
And that brings me to the end of my review, I hope you enjoyed it. And with that being said,
Stay Safe,
Ciao xx
