After the great success of their previous song, Wannabe, ITZY has come back with another song, Not Shy. But what did I think of this song? Let's find out.

Okay, now without further ado, let's get into the review.

Note: Skip to each section of this post with the contents down below :)

    THE SONG

First of all, let's analyse the song. Like I do in my more recent reviews, I'm going to analyse this song section by section. So, let's get into it.

Intro: So, first things first, the intro of the song. The intro starts off with a quite catchy instrumental and Yuna and Chaeryeong basically 'introducing' the song with the song title and all that jazz. It's nothing too special. However, I think the highlight of this part is Chaeryeong's 'ITZYY'. Let's be honest, that's probably one of the best parts of this whole song, but let's move on.

Verse 1: After the intro is the first verse of this song. Verse 1 of this song starts with Lia singing. I quite like how Lia starts off the song because we finally get to see her singing comfortable and in her range. I also like how Lia gets a chance to shine by starting off the song. But more about that in the 'Who Owned This Song' section ;)

When Lia finishes her part of the first verse Ryujin starts her 'rap part. To me, the rap part is more like a mix between rapping and shouting but it didn't bother me. I actually found it really catchy, especially the '그냥 탁 그냥 탁탁탁탁탁' part. So despite it being more shouty to me than 'rappy', I still enjoyed it. Verse one ends with the line 'Not shy to say I want you' and then it gets into the pre-chorus.

Pre-Chorus: Now time for the pre-chorus. So, I don't know how many times I will say this, but I love the pre-chorus of recent K-Pop releases, they're like the best part of the song.

Of course, this pre-chorus is no exception, I really like the Pre-chorus of this song. The pre-chorus is really catchy and it's one of my favourite part of this song. What makes it even better is that Lia and Yuna get some more lines and get to show off their vocals.

Chorus: Now time for the chorus, probably the most memorable part of the song.

The chorus starts off with the line; '말해봐 다 어서 다 cuz I’m not shy'. So, I do like this line, however, I thought it seemed a bit abrupt and odd after all of the vocal parts of the song. But I got used to it eventually. And besides, that line is probably one of the most iconic lines of this song, (along with Chaeryeong's ITZY).

After that line, the proper chorus starts. The chorus to Not Shy is a lot different than the ones in ITZY's other releases. In ITZY's previous songs there are proper lyrics during the chorus, however, in the chorus of Not Shy, it follows the 'structure' of a lot of other K-Pop Releases. That structure being, only having a few specific lines that are repeated, along with the instrumental.

I don't have a problem with this structure usually, and I think it actually works well with Not Shy.

Overall, I do quite like the chorus of this song, and I think it's very memorable and catchy.

Verse 2: Next up is the second verse. Out of the first and the second verse, I think I like the second one better.

The reason for this is probably because first of all, I like the melody of the second verse a bit better than the first, and I think it really suits/complements Chaeryeong's voice. And secondly, because in Yeji's part of the second verse (the 'shouty' rap, as I call it) I really like Yeji's voice. I think that Yeji's voice really makes that part of the song a lot better. But that might just be me, tell me what you guys think in the comments down below.

Afterwards is the chorus and pre-chorus which I've already talked about. So let's move on to the bridge.

Bridge: So, what did I think of the bridge? Well, I really like it.

First of all, Lia's vocals (along with Yeji's of course). Lia really shined in this song. I also really like the melody of the bridge part. And finally, those high notes, honestly Yeji and Leia slayed the bridge part.

After the bridge is a sort of chorus section before the chorus if you know what I mean. (It's Ryujin's part in case you are confused). In that part, the beginning of the chorus is basically just repeated a few times.

Then after that, the chorus is repeated again.

So, what is my overall opinion on this song? Well, I do quite like it. The song is a bit different from ITZY's other music releases, seeing as the concept/message of this song is different, as well as the song having a different structure, (different chorus, no dance break) However, despite this, I still think it's a good song. At the moment, I'm not sure if I prefer it to ITZY's other songs but I still really enjoy it.

    THE CHOREOGRAPHY / PERFORMANCE

Now time for the choreography and performance of this song. So, Let's start with the choreography.

So, what did I think of the choreography? Well, I usually really like ITZY's choreographies, and since ITZY has a group with a lot of talented dancers, the choreography is usually up to standard. And this choreography isn't any different. I really enjoyed this choreography, despite there not being a fancam to properly watch this choreography. But, nonetheless, I enjoyed, this choreography, and here are my favourite parts.

Number one — The Chorus Choreography

The chorus choreography is by far my favourite part of the choreography. The chorus choreography was in the teasers, and you know I was watching the teasers all day every day. So overall, I really like the choreography for the chorus.

Number Two — The Choreography for This Part

This is another one of my favourite parts of the choreography. I'm not sure if I have a reason for this, but I do really like the choreography for the '그냥 싹 지워 싹싹싹싹싹'.

Number Three — The Choreography for The Beginning of Verse 2

This is the final part of the choreography that I'm going to be talking about. I'm also not sure why I like this part so much, but I think it's satisfying to watch.

Despite liking most of this choreography there is one part that I don't like. And that is the last chorus choreography. To me, it isn't really exciting and I prefer the other chorus choreography, but other than that this is a good choreo.

So, overall I do really like this choreography. The hair flip and body roll game in this choreo is strong, and despite there being no dance break, I still like this choreography.

Now for the performance. So, I was watching the performance videos for this song, and I was quite impressed. ITZY were doing the choreography and singing at the same time, and they were quite stable. On Wednesday the 19th, JYP uploaded a video of ITZY practising their dance and vocals, which was also quite impressive.

Another thing that I would like to mention is the stage presence. I believe that the stage presence was very good for these performances. However, 2 people I would like to point out are Chaeryeong and Lia.

I pointed out Chaeryeong because my girl actually SLAYED this choreography. And I pointed out Lia because I think she really improved in her dancing, and I'm excited to see how she progresses in the future.

So, overall, the performance of this song was good, and so was the choreography.

    THE MUSIC VIDEO

Now for the music video, but first, if you haven't watched it yet, then be sure to watch it above.

So, what did I think of this music video? Well, I think I quite like it. At the beginning we got a nice intro, introducing all of the members and then it gets into the song.

The music video has a very country vibe to it if you know what I mean.

Okay, so before we get into what my favourite part of this music video was, let's talk about what I didn't like so much.

So, there were only maybe one or two different things that I didn't love about this music video. Let's start with the smaller one.

So, first of all, I didn't really like how there was a pause in the middle of the music video for a different scene. Now, I know this happens in other music videos, and this is just me being nitpicky, but I wish I could watch the music video without having to skip through that one scene where the music is not playing. To be honest, I could probably edit that myself or find a version online, but I thought I should share what I think.

    Secondly, the outfits.

So, usually, I talk about my favourite outfits and how I loved all the outfits in other music videos.

(For Example -  My Review of Hyoyeon's Dessert, My Review of Jessi's Nunu Nana)

However, in this music video, the outfits, WERE NOT IT. I don't know what kind of look the stylist was going for, but it doesn't do it for me. I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks this way, but either way, most of the outfits in this music video, were not my cup of tea.

Okay,, now enough nagging about what I don't like, let's get onto the parts that I do like about this music video.

    Number One — The Visuals

One of my favourite parts in this music video is the visuals. The girls were stunning in this video. (even their outfits don't make them look bad) I chose that clip of Chaeryeong because she was GLOWING in this music video.

Number Two — The White Outfits

Okay, did you actually think I wasn't going to talk about outfits? Well, you were wrong. I like the white outfits in this video because they are actually decent and I think they suit ITZY very well.

Overall, I do like this music video, there were only a few things that I disliked about it.

    WHO OWNED THIS SONG?

So, now for the section that I've been waiting for the most. Who Owned this song? I'm almost 99% sure that people will see this coming, but it doesn't matter, because I will still say. So, the person who owned this song is:

🍓Our Very Own Choi Lia! 🍓

Is anyone surprised at this? At all? Lia absolutely OWNED this song and this whole album. MIDZY's were all waiting for a Lia or Chaeryeong era (Chaeryeong's era is coming soon, mark my words, besides, 2 days after Not Shy Era, I won't be surprised if JYP announces a new comeback ☕💀, but I digress.) and everyone's prayers were answered. Lia really shined this era and I'm very happy about that.

    POLL - ITZY'S NOT SHY

So, I think Lia owned this song, but if you think differently, make sure to vote for who you think owned this song in the poll below.

    MY OVERALL RATING

So, what is my overall rating on this song? Well, I do really like it, but there are some things that I dislike about this comeback. So, keeping this in mind, I give this song a 7-8/10. Tell me what you think in the comments down below.

So that brings me to the end of my review. And with that being said,

    Stay Safe,

    Ciao xx
