Review - Blackpink's How You Like That

by - July 01, 2020

'How You Like That' by Blackpink, probably the most anticipated comeback of 2020, is finally out. Blinks are ecstatic that Blackpink is back and lots of people loved the song. However, some people didn't, but what did I think about it? Let's find out. But first, make sure to stay tuned for the YouTube video version of this post over on my channel and my Pinterest and Instagram. (Links in the sidebar)

Okay, now without further ado, let's get into my review.

(Just a quick disclaimer before we start, I will admit that I'm scared and also done with a lot of Blinks. Blinks are probably one of the biggest Kpop fandoms out there, so of course, there will be some sensitive/toxic ones, but I don't want any toxic Blinks here. I've seen others do reviews of this song, and get hate for giving their opinion. So, I've decided to say that if there are any toxic Blinks leaving hate comments on my review, then I won't hesitate to disable comments and block you from my blog. However, if you're actually interested in my opinion, then feel free to continue :) )

The Song

So, let's start with the song. I actually quite like this song. The intro is very strong and powerful, and it slowly progresses into Rosé's verse which is a bit more chill. However, some parts did catch me off guard, for example, the chorus. I did not expect the chorus to sound the way it did and whenever I listened to the song, I kept getting shocked when that part came, however, the chorus is probably my favourite part of the song. Another part that caught me off guard was the dance break. Usually, I love dance breaks with all of my heart, but this one just isn't my favourite. I think it's the sudden start of the 'du, du, du' that I didn't really like. But apart from that, I like this song a lot, and here are some of my favourite parts:

  1. Rosé and Jisoo's bridge — The bridge saved my year and cleared my skin, I absolutely love it.
  2. Lisa's Rap - It was so powerful, I can't even.
  3. Jisoo saying 'How You Like That' — I can't even explain why I love that part so much, I just do.

So overall, there were only a few minor parts of this song that I didn't like, but other than that, I really liked it.

The Choreography

Now it's time for the choreography Here, I'll just be completely honest. The choreography isn't one of my favourites ever. Something to know about me is that I prefer choreographies that look more complex, they excite me more. And although How You Like That has a good choreography, I have others that I prefer. However, I've learnt my lesson from Twice's More & More, and I won't say that it's not difficult, because I haven't tried it yet so I can't know for sure.

My favourite part of this choreography has got to be the chorus, I just love it so much. To me, it's just so pleasing to watch.

Also, this comeback, I really loved Jennie's dancing. I think choreography-wise, Jennie caught my eye the most.

So, overall, this is not one of my favourite choreographies, but I love how Blackpink executed it.

The Music Video

Okay, now it's time for me to talk about the music video, but first, if you haven't watched the music video yet, be sure to watch it above.

So, what I say about this music video shouldn't be a surprise to literally anyone. You best believe that this music video is High Quality, High Budget, Beautiful, etc. This has got to be my favourite Blackpink music videos ever. The colour scheme, the visuals, it's all amazing. Everything in this music video is the definition of stunning. Also, to make things even more shocking, this isn't even a title track. So much effort was put into a song that wasn't even the title track of their album, I'm shook. I don't know how YG does it. Let's be honest, YG may not know how to manage a group properly, but he sure does know how to make a good music video.

So, what are my overall thoughts? Well, I think that this music video is stunning, the set is stunning, Blackpink is STUNNING and no one can and/or will tell me otherwise.

Who Owned This Song?

Okay, so who owned this song? Well let me be honest, I honestly have no idea. Now don't get me wrong, I know all the members of Blackpink well, but I just can't decide who I think owned this song, which is why I'll leave it up to the viewers. Be sure to leave a comment down below or vote for who owned this song.

Poll down below

However, for now, since I can't decide, I'll just say that all of the members of Blackpink owned this song.

Overall Rating

So, what's my overall rating. Well, this is a good song, there were a few aspects that I didn't like, but there were also aspects that I loved. And I also need to remember that this isn't a title track, and I'm sure that the actual title track will blow me away.

So, keeping all of the above in mind, I'll give this song a 7-8 / 10. Tell me what you guys think in the comments.

Okay, so that brings me to the end of my review. I hope you enjoyed it. And with that being said,

Stay Safe,

Ciao xx
