After one year of waiting, (typical YG) boy group TREASURE has finally made their debut with the song 'Boy', but what did I think of this song? Let's find out.

Okay, now without further ado, let's get into the review.

(Just a note before you start reading: I am extremely new to TREASURE even though they were supposed to debut last year... So yeah, if I seem more confused in this review, that's why.)

THE SONG

So first of all, what did I think of the song? Well, something that I noticed at first listen was the very prominent YG Song structure. Recently, I did a review of Somi's What You Waiting For and I said that I didn't really think that it sounded similar to other YG songs, and I didn't think that the typical song structure was too obvious. However, now that I've listened to Boy by TREASURE, I think that I can notice the repetitive structure. And although I would like to see a change, the structure doesn't make me enjoy the song any less.

So, this song starts off with a soft melody and then a nice riff, which I like. Then it goes into the first verse. I quite like the first verse because it is really catchy and it has a nice melody to it. Then after that is a sort of 'rap' section in the song. Now I will admit, in this song, I do prefer the singing parts to the rap parts, but that's just me. So in my opinion, the rap after the first verse isn't really memorable.

After the whole rap section is the pre-chorus. In my recent reviews, I really like the pre-chorus of songs, and it's no different in this song. The pre-chorus is really catchy and plus, the vocals are great. I could honestly listen to the pre-chorus for this song on repeat. But anyways. The pre-chorus ends with 'I just wanna be your boy'. And the end of that line is where the song kinda goes downhill.

The chorus. I definitely do not love the chorus of this song. The melody to me just sounds a bit weird and it just makes the chorus not enjoyable to listen to. Although the vocals during the chorus are very good and the lyrics are catchy, it's just the melody for the chorus that isn't my cup of tea. However, if you think differently, tell me down below in the comments.

After the chorus is another rap part. Now I will admit that I do like this rap part better than the first one. I find it more memorable and catchy than the first one. Although, in my opinion, the rap/2nd verse of this song will not beat the first verse.

After the rap, is the pre-chorus and chorus again, and then the bridge. I quite liked the bridge part, and although I've said this a lot in this review, the vocals were great during this part.

Next up is a dance break, which also follows the YG song structure, but I won't get into that.

After the dance break comes this line: '다 필요 없어 나와 손을 잡고, Run'. Which if I'm being honest is one of my favourite parts of the song. And then after that comes the line: 'Shh, Treasure'. Now I don't know about you guys but that is another iconic line if you ask me...

Finally, after the dance break, I guess, is the 'last verse' if you can call it that. I won't go into that part as there isn't a whole lot to it.

So, what did I think of this song as a whole? Well, I did not love it, but the song is slowly growing on me the more I listen to it.

THE CHOREOGRAPHY / PERFORMANCE

Okay, now for the choreography and performance for this song. So, first of all, what did I think of the choreography? Well, I actually like the choreography for this song. I enjoyed watching TREASURE performing and sometimes it was hard to believe that they just debuted. So, with that being said, here are my favourite parts.

Number One - The Dance Break

One of my favourite parts of this choreography is the dance break, it's just so aesthetically pleasing to watch.

Number Two - The Formations

So, this one is a bit weird, but sometimes, in groups with a large number of members, the formations can be weird and they can make the choreography look messy. However, in this choreography, I didn't see a problem with it. Despite there being 12 members in treasure, the formations were fine and the choreography did not look messy to me.

Number Three - The Intro

Finally, another one of my favourite parts of the choreography is the intro. I mean, just watch it. It's so satisfying to look at.

So, overall, I do like this choreography, although it's not one of my favourites I do like it.

Now for the performance. But first of all, please bear in mind that I am judging the performance from this video, and with the interesting camera work, it is a bit hard to see what's going on.

So, what did I think of the performance for this song? Well when watching the performance, I couldn't help but be impressed. Sometimes while watching the performance I forgot that this is literally TREASURE's debut song. I believe that the stage presence was there and I was also impressed that TREASURE could still sing live well whilst executing the choreography.

So, overall, I think that the performance of this song was really good, especially considering that TREASURE is a rookie group.

THE MUSIC VIDEO

Now for the music video, but first, if you haven't watched the music video, be sure to watch it above.

So, what did I think of this music video? Well, I actually quite like the music video for this song.

It's no surprise that YG makes some of the best K-Pop music videos, and I don't think that this music video is any different.

In this music video, we got our fair share of choreography and visuals, which I'm fine with. Also, this music video has it's darker scenes and it's more 'bright' scenes if that makes sense. So, with that being said, here are my favourite parts of this music video.

Number One — This Scene

In this music video, there are a lot of scenes that I like, but this one is one of my favourites. The colours and the outfit in this scene go together so well, I had to include it.

Number Two — This Scene

Another one of my favourite parts in this music video is this scene. It may seem like I'm just picking out the various different sets in this music video, but I do genuinely like this one a lot. It's a nice change from all of the 'darker' scenes we got in this music video.

Number Three — Shh, Treasure

The last of my favourite parts in this music video that I'm going to be talking about is, of course, the 'Shh, Treasure' line. I loved that part in the song and I love it in the music video as well.

So overall, this music video is very high quality, and I really enjoyed it.

Okay, so if you read my note at the beginning, you would not that I'm not familiar with the members of TREASURE. And because of this, I don't think it's right for me to say who owned this song (especially since I won't be able to) so I'll leave it up to the viewers. After one or two delays, Irene & Seulgi's subunit has finally made its debut with the song "Monster". But what did I think of this debut song? Let's find out.

Okay, now without further ado, let's get into the video.

THE SONG

So, first of all, what do I think of this song? Well, I quite like it. It has a very different sound to most Red Velvet songs. It's not really a "Velvet" song, but more of a darker theme. It's quite new, but it is a nice change. Also, although I do like this song, it did take a while for this song to 'stick' like other songs do. This song didn't get stuck in my head straight away, and it took quite a few listens for it to really stick with me, but once it did, it was stuck for good. One of the most catchy parts of the song to me is the beginning. The melody at the beginning of the song is really catchy, and often times I find myself humming it to myself.

As for the vocals in this song, I was quite impressed. The vocals in this song are great, and both Irene and Seulgi get a chance to shine. However, are any of us surprised? Nope. Red Velvet are known for their great vocals and this song is no exception.

In this song, I especially like Seulgi's voice. It's quite unique and powerful, which I love. As for Irene, she really showed us her vocals in this song. It's quite shocking to me that some people still label Irene as 'just a visual' when really she is such an all-rounder. However, I hope that after listening to this song, Irene will be known for her vocals a lot as well.

So, overall, my thoughts for this song are that it's really catchy, and I really like this new side that Irene & Seulgi showed in this subunit.

THE CHOREOGRAPHY / PERFORMANCE

Now time for the choreography and performance. Okay, so to be honest, this definitely isn't one of my favourite choreographies. It isn't the most complex thing ever, but I understand that there are only two members for this choreography, so I can't expect the world. There are some parts of the choreo that I really like, however, such as, the 'spider' at the beginning and the end of the choreography, and the choreography for the chorus. Yet despite liking those parts, I can't avoid the fact that I was hoping for a little bit more. For example, in the last chorus, where the beat was different from the other choruses, I thought I was going to get a 'dance break' sort of thing. But when I watch the choreo for that part, I can't help but be slightly disappointed.

However, what I didn't necessarily get in choreography, I believe I did get in stage presence. For example, I've seen a lot of Reveluvs pointing out Irene's stage presence in this particular song, and I can't help but agree. Irene's facial expressions and dancing in this song really stood out to me. And for Seulgi, I think I can safely say that she never disappoints with stage presence.

So, overall, what did I think of this choreography and its performance? Well, I may not love the choreography, but I believe that the stage presence makes up for it.

THE MUSIC VIDEO

Now for the music video. But first, if you haven't watched the music video, make sure to watch it above.

So, what did I think of the music video? Well, I love it. It's as simple as that. This music video is aesthetically pleasing, the outfits are great, the visuals are great. What more could I honestly ask for?

Another thing I'd like to mention is the monster face that was edited on Irene. I think that it was a nice addition to the music video and that it fits with the concept. Since the name of the song is monster, however, I do prefer the editing of the monster face in the Middle Note and Top Note Choreography videos. (Make sure to watch them if you haven't) But you guys can be the judge of that.

Also, apparently, this music video is rated 15. I don't know if it's because of Seulgi's gun, I don't know if it's because of (to put things simply) the tension. But whatever it may be for, on behalf of all Reveluvs, I would like to thank the Director of this music video for all the SeulRene Content we have received.

So, my overall thoughts on this music video are that it's great. The sets are stunning, the outfits are beautiful. Overall it's just a great music video.

WHO OWNED THIS SONG?

Now for who owned this song. I was hesitant in doing this section since there are only two members to chose from, and I want to seem as unbiased as possible. (Even though that usually fails.) However, I decided to do it because I feel like it would be a crime to ignore this person.

So, the person who I think owned this song is:

Irene

So, let me explain. If you made it to here in my review, you've seen all of my praises for Irene. And I stand by those because I really think that Irene deserves it. In this debut song, Irene showed off her vocals and stage presence, which I love. It shows that Irene isn't just a visual. She is an all-rounder, and she needs to be recognised more for her vocals, dancing etc.

I think in this debut song, Irene really got her chance to shine, and I hope others think so too.

MY OVERALL RATING

So, what is my overall rating for this song? Well, overall, this is a powerful debut song. Even though Red Velvet has been in the industry for a while, you can't deny the fact that this is amazing for a debut song. However, this debut does have it's good and bad aspects. So, keeping this in mind, I'll give this song a 7-8 out of 10. Tell me what you guys think down below.

Recently, a new girl group under Vine Entertainment — Secret Number — made their debut with the song 'Who Dis?' and fans from all over the world showed their love for the girls and for their first song, but what did I think of Who Dis? Make sure to stay tuned to my YouTube channel for the video version of this post. Now, without further ado, let's get into the review.

The Song

First things first, what is my opinion on Secret Number's Debut Song? Well, I actually quite like it. I love the sax (and or trumpet) BGM, as it gives the song a very jazzy feel to it, and the vocals are just as strong. I think this is quite a good debut song. All the members for Secret Number did get a chance to shine in this song. Although, one thing that I will point out is that the line distribution for this song isn't the fairest, but it does make sense as all the members got a decent amount of lines for their position in the group. (For example, as Denise is the main vocal, she got the most lines.) So, this isn't a problem for me, as this is only their debut song and we will be able to see the other members shine in upcoming songs. So, overall, I really like this song and I look forward to seeing what Secret Number will put out in the future.

The Choreography

Okay, now for the choreography. I'll just come out and say this now, I'm not in love with the choreography. It isn't the most complex or exciting thing that I've ever seen, and I've definitely seen choreographies that I prefer (which I won't say because I'm sure you already know.) However, even with the choreography, the girls are definitely not dull on stage. They are actually quite charismatic, which makes their performance a lot more enjoyable. So, my overall thoughts on the choreography are that it's a fun choreography, but not one of my favourites.

The Music Video

Next up is the music video. But before I start talking about the music video, make sure to watch it above if you haven't already. 

Okay, so the music video mainly focuses on the choreography and the visuals of Secret Number. But, I'm not complaining, as Secret Number have some unique visuals. (One Example would be Dita, as she is from Indonesia and I believe, the first Indonesian K-pop Idol — Please support her and the whole of Secret Number everyone :) ). Another thing I like about the music video is the colours. The colour scheme is quite aesthetically pleasing, and the colours that I noticed the most were pink and blue, which actually go together quite well. Finally, the last thing I'll talk about for the music video is the outfits. To keep things short, there are definitely some outfits that are better than others in this music video, but I don't think that all the outfits are bad. There are just some that I prefer to others.

So to wrap things up with the music video, it is quite a simple music video, but I like it.

Who owned this song?

So, this was a bit hard for me, as, in this song, I don't think anyone outshined anyone else. But, if I had to make a decision, the person who I think owned this song would be: Denise.

The reason why I chose Denise is that she got a lot of lines and centre time, which made her stand out a lot, and I can see why. For a rookie, Denise has lovely vocals, I absolutely love her voice, and being main vocal, it makes sense that she got a lot of lines. Overall, I think that Denise really shined in her debut.

Okay, so before we move onto the next section, I have to add that I have an honourable mention. Because if you know me, you know that I can never pick only one person in this section. So, my honourable mention is: Jinny.

I chose Jinny as an honourable mention because she also got a lot of lines in this song. And also, she shined with her rap parts and showed her potential right from the get-go. From what I saw from this song, Jinny is quite a good rapper, and I'm excited to see her improve in the future.

Overall Rating

Since this is only a debut song, I wasn't expecting something extraordinary, however, this song is quite a strong debut song. Keeping this in mind, I give this song a 7.5 - 8 / 10. The girls a quite talented, the song is quite catchy, and the vocals and rap were great. What more could I ask for? Leave your ratings in the comments below.
